September 2001
In the past few months, our household has been turned
upside down with the addition of a new family member...
No, we didn't get another cat! Ebony is living with
us indefinitely. As a result, we had to move her into
Curren's nursery and Curren has been,... well, I don't
know... Not exactly evicted. I mean, he sleeps in the
bedroom with us, and his toys and changing table are
all in the living room. This apartment has become extremely
cramped and uncomfortable and everyone's kind of getting
on everyone else's nerves, right now.
Curren, of course, continues to do the "thrive"
thing. He gained a couple of pounds, grew an inch, right
on track for normal healthy baby.
At his 15 month visit, Curren's Pediatrician told us
to go ahead and give him whole milk -- even though I
don't necessarily like the crap that's in Milk. Of course,
I was given milk as a kid, and I seem to be o.k. so
far. So we've moved Curren off Soy and we're giving
him milk. He doesn't seem to like it so well. Soy milk
usually has a sweet, vanilla taste (cuz we buy the sweet
vanilla kind!) and Curren likes that. Milk tastes like....
Milk. No vanilla, no nothing. So Curren doesn't go for
Milk. He'll get used to it, though.
Curren tends to eat 3 squares a day, as well as snacking
on whatever he finds on the carpet! AUGH! I HATE that!
He hides food around the house! Just like Ebony did
when SHE was a baby! AUGH!!! He'll place cookies and
crackers in corners to go back to, later! And this place
is... just a disaster! Just... Oh my gawd!
I have lost all will to even attempt to clean up this
place, and it shows. It's just too close in this apartment,
now. Too small - no elbow room! No space. You're always
tripping over a cat or a toy or a baby or a human. Curren
LOVES this! He gets into EVERYTHING. He chases cats!
He climbs his changing table. He runs, the second you
pull the "gate" (play yard serves as gate)
open, and goes knocking on bedroom doors! To him, this
whole aparrment is just one big discovery zone, and
he can't see the danger. And I just want to pull my
(fake) hair out!
What's Curren doing that we dig?
He says "Fan", "Dada", "Shoe"...
And he tries to count, it seems. I count with him a
lot. Especially when I change him. He says what sounds
like "Two" and "Four" and "Five".
He's also learning to say "NO."
He KISSES! He loves to kiss! If he wants something,
he'll crawl up to you and kiss you! If he sees a FACE
IN A MAGAZINE that he thinks is pleasing, he'll KISS
IT! He kissed my cereal bowl because he wanted some
Golden Grahams! He's silly with kissing!
He DANCES! He loves to dance! He shakes his head, his
hands, he claps, he taps his feet, he ... dances! Just
moves around! It's really very cute!
He "reads" which I think is cute. He holds
a book, points to objects, and chatters along, as if
he's reading.
What does Curren do that we DON'T dig?
He HITS! He throws TEMPER TANTRUMS! He goes WILD, just
throwing himself on the floor and crying, but when you
look at him, sometimes, he's not crying at all! Sometimes
he's laughing/crying, to see what you'll do next.
Hmmm,... what else? Curren's just a pretty kid. Really
just pretty. I mean, all babies are cute, right? Curren's
just handsome to look at. No matter how cranky or irritable
I get, I can look at Curren, and just smile. It's a
weird reaction. It's a nice reaction.
