Months 6 - 7

November 2000 - Curren is 6 months old, sitting up by himself, crawling in a lurching sort of way, trying to pull himself up, and trying to walk.

We took him to Illinois to visit my (Kim’s) family for Thanksgiving, Curren handles the 15+ hour trip (one way!) just fine -- better than some of the adults did!  He travels well. This is the first time my family will have seen this child other than pictures.  My grandmother falls in love with Curren and Curren does amazing things for my family. We’re freaked out about giving him cheerios, but my sister Ellen says to go ahead and do it.

We get Curren a walker and let him trudge along in it.

December 2000 - Curren is pulling himself up, sitting himself up, crawling like mad - but he still does the lurch thing. Curren believes he can walk. Who are we to argue? We put him in his walker and he just goes and goes. He eats Cheerios. He LOVES cheerios. Gawd forbid we should not have Cheerios in the house. He verbalizes “Da da da da”, “Ma ma ma ma” “Bwa ba ba bwa ba” and a bunch of other sounds that SOUND like words.  Curren is VERY VERY talkative (like his mom) and he enjoys when you imitate him -- as long as you do it right.  Dan imitated a few sounds Curren made and Curren frowned and very deliberately made the sounds over again -- I guess to tell Dan to “GET IT RIGHT, This time!”

Curren eats a variety of Stage 2 foods, but he really loves the green stuff. Green Beans, broccolli, etc.  This gives him GAS!!! Again with the GAS!

We continually have cheerios in our carpet.

We are cluttered, disorganized, and flustered. This leads to...

Curren gets to go to the big apple by his 7th month birthday. I don’t want to go into the whole story again. Just tune into Queen Latifah on January 15th to get an idea of what’s going on -- or you can read Dan’s journal. It’s all in there. Basically, we got a few tips on organizing our lives and Curren got a nursery. Pics of new nursery will follow shortly! Curren handled the flight to NYC (and back) pretty well. He was occasionally fussy, but otherwise a good baby. Curren slept in the limo to the studio and to the hotel. First of all -- IT’S A LIMO!!!!!!!! Second of all -- IT’S NEW YORK DRIVING????? How ANYONE could sleep through the way people drive in NYC is amazing to me!  But Curren was so tired from the flight up, he just conked. The QL taping session was a wirlwind.  Flew up Monday, the 18th, taped and flew back on Tuesday, the 19th.  Didn’t even have time to contact old friends. (Sorry James!)

Curren is a very well behaved child for everyone else. He’s kind of a mama’s boy around me, and fussy with Dan.  Because he knows he can be. Sometimes it gets a little trying. Still, Curren is an angel!

December 25 -- Curren’s FIRST CHRISTMAS! Those pics will be posted shortly! Curren made out like a bandit! We were going to have hm open his gifts with us at home, then we realized it was much more fun for Dan’s parents to watch.  So Dan and I opened our gifts Christmas morning, and Curren opened his stuff at the Grandparent’s house.

A special thanks to the following people --

Grampus & Doroty (You guys really came through!)
    Honey (We shopped like mad!)
Mama Rainey (We spent every dime!)
Debbie S. (He’s gonna be a proper Nole, Deb!)
Nana Judy Bug & Papa Jack (You saved Christmas!)
Josh & Amanda (btw - wtf is the funny stuffed blue elephantmade of???  Curren LOVES to play with it, but Dan and I can barely stand to touch it!!!!)

Curren and the cats LOVE the tree!

I was putting some strange kind of foam-like decorative floor panels in his nursery, today (12.27.00), and looked up at the crib to check on Curren.  He was standing there, looking down on me. Curren stands up in his crib all the time, now.  We can only lower that bed one more time and then, he’ll be climbing out. He’s growing so very quickly, it’s frightening.

Oh, by the way -- Got his first taste of the ultimate cool, today! Uncle John came to visit. We need more of him in our lives!  The baby LOVED him. That’s the way it should be.

And if you’re curious, we’ve already decided.  There is no Santa, but there IS Surf. Curren will be raised that Santa is one of the many figures representing the spirit of Christmas. A good guy, but a figure-head. Surf, however, is REAL.  Nothing will keep a future pro surfer in line like threats of a wipe out.

“If you’re not good this year, you’ll miss some glassy lefts out at Paint On The Road!”
