Months 7 - 8

January 2000

Curren is progressing so fast in some areas, it's hard to keep up. I can't believe how in love with this child I am.

Curren sleeps with us. I know.  That is a total no-no.  But he does.  We’re finding that he’ll sleep in the play yard at night if we put it by the bed.  But mostly, he sleeps with us. The kid’s got a brand new nursery, and he still sleeps with us.  However, I must tell you that SIDS scares the hell out of me, and I just can’t bring myself to put him in another room for the night. When he’s in our bed, I know he’s breathing. When he’s in the play yard beside our bed, I know he’s breathing.

Curren has a sense of humor? We don’t understand it yet, but he finds the most bizarre things to laugh at!  And he has a heck of a laugh! sometimes, he’ll just scream out laughing and duck his head down, and flap his hands -- he’s learned a few things, I told ya! - and just laugh and laugh. Sometimes it’s the way we say things.  Sometimes it’s just one word. I can make Curren laugh more than anyone.  Glad to see he finds mommy so funny!

I’m teaching Curren how to “High Five” and how to “gimme 5” and it’s just too cute! Curren is learning to clap his hands, he’s learning to wave, and we’re getting him to talk on the phone.  It almost made Dan cry, the day I got Curren to “leave a message” on his voicemail at work!

We have found, just recently, that if we place the play yard in the nursery with some of Curren’s favorite toys, he’ll play for quite a while before he realizes we’re not around. Once he notices we’re not in the same room with him he stands up and makes a particular cry that only becomes a real cry when we come into the room to check on him... (See, he’s doing it NOW!)

Sometimes, Curren just lays in his play yard and I swear it sounds like he’s singing. He just lays there going “da do do da da de da dre phft phft” and it’s so danged CUTE! Yeah. Everything he does, in one way or another is just CUTE!  Except...

Curren tries to DIVE BOMB off the back of the couch. When he tries to dive into the wall, or jump off our shoulders, it’s pretty danged scary!  And, oh!!!!! GAWD!!!! Sometimes, Curren just SCRATCHES the WALL to hear what it sounds like! Ewwwww!  Dan and I hate that sound.

Curren is really discovering music.  Not just hearing it, but really listening to it.  He will cock his head to the side, sometimes, and listen, when there’s a commercial with music in the back ground. And when we watch Between the Lions, I sing the theme song and we dance. Curren does that arm waving/flapping thing, now, sometimes, when there’s music. I LOVE that.

Things Curren does that Dan and I LOVE:

  • His laugh
  • Playing Dan’s synthesizer
  • Giving us kisses
  • Sticking out his tongue
  • Talking (all the time with the baby talk!)
  • His curiosity
  • His smile

Curren is finishing his 7th month of life, entering his 8th. He’s just an amazing little creature, as all babies are amazing.  We thank the Maker that we have a strong healthy baby boy, when so many are struggling. We really have been blessed.

Jan - Feb 2000

Curren suffered his first real illness near the end o fJanuary,... some sort of stomach virus that was very frustrating. It also hid the fact that he was intolerant to the new formula we bought him.  Yes, he did have a stomach virus, but yes, he is also Lactose Intollerant! We’re never making the mistake of giving him cow milk again!

Curren has developed a shyness around strangers. This is normal. He only waves or claps or whatever around me and Dan.  Guess we can’t show him off if he won’t perform! :-) I figure once Curren is socialized around other children & people, he’ll get over this shyness and start being his outgoing self again.

Curren has a girlfriend! A cutie named Gabby. I met her mother a couple of times, while out shopping and we decided it was fate!  Kathran is a wonderful person, a perfect mom, a cool friend to have!  She’s really been an improvement in my life and in Currens. Her daughter Gabby is just the cutest little spitfire! The strange thing is that people have asked if Curren & Gabby are siblings.  They kind of resemble each other in that way that all babies resemble each other. It’s kind of cool.

We’re considering putting Curren in Day Care 2 days a week in order to get him socialized around other kids, and to give me a day or two off, to get this house clean. We’ll find the money in the budget.  We’ll do it.  Curren needs to be around other babies, ... and I need a day to myself!

Curren is finishing his 8 1/2 months old.  He can be whiney, sometimes.  He still sleeps with us... But I’m glad I have him in my life!
