How to tell if you are a guitar geek
You are the funky bassline of my life, I am your rock...
12-30
- So were watching the DVD of "John Carpenters Ghosts Of Mars" which turns out to be a pretty cruddy film despite the inclusion of Ice Cube, Pam Grier, lots of action, explosions, and multiple decapitations involving circular saw blades.
-
- But, as with so many movies these days, there is more to the movie than just "the movie." I suppose this is a good thing if you are really into the film and want to know more about how it was made, but it seems that there is an alarming number of "making of" specials being made about films that for all intents and purposes pretty much suck.
-
- Among the extras that come along with the "Ghost of Mars" DVD is a short feature about the making of the score to the film. As with all his other films, director John Carpenter wrote the music for the soundtrack (he's a guitarist) but this time around he recruited various rock bands and famous guitar players to come in and record the tracks for him. Soon the screen is filled with footage of famous guitar-slingers doing their thing while watching time-coded dailies from the film.
-
- Among these, is a lesser known player named Buckethead.
-
- He's known as buckethead because he wears a bucket on his head while he performs.
-
a kentucky fried chicken bucket.
-
- I am asked, because of course I would be the one to know these sort of things, why on earth is he wearing a KFC bucket on his head?
-
- and I have to answer (because of course I do know) that the legend says (legend meaning the story that was on the inside jacket of this guys first album) that buckethead was abandoned on a farm by his parents when he was born, where he was raised to adulthood by a family of
-
- ...chickens.
-
- Congratulations!! You are now a stealth guitar geek,
set to go off like a bomb when you least expect it.
-
- Now, If the name buckethead ever comes up in conversation around you, you will have this fact at your disposal.
-
- You will feel compelled to tell people this information relevant to the conversation they are having about buckethead. And irregardless of the fact that they were the ones that brought it up, those very same people will look at you funny when it appears you are an expert in all things buckethead.
-
You're welcome.
